Overview

Bwindi impenetrable forest national park is one of the only four
national parks that are homes to the endangered mountain gorillas.
More than 700 gorillas call Bwindi a home that is almost three
quarters of the world’s total population of mountain gorillas
dwelling here.
This trip allows you trek the gorillas in their natural habitats to
have a real close encounter with these mighty apes as well as a
cultural retreat with the Batwa pygmies of the forest.

Travel Plan


  • 01
    Day 1: Travel to Bwindi impenetrable forest national park.

    The trip starts in Kampala with a pick up from the hotel you slept.
    Our knowledgeable driver guide takes you through the whole trip
    and then start travelling to Bwindi impenetrable forest national
    park. Travelling from Kampala to Bwindi roughly takes nine hours,
    but 9 hours of a comfortable ride enjoying the beautiful scenery.
    Have a stopover at the Uganda equator for pictures and the water
    experiment. Another stop will be in Mbarara town for lunch. From
    here proceed straight to the park, arriving in the evening for dinner
    and overnight.

    Day 2 : Gorilla trekking and Batwa community.

    Gorilla trekking starts very early in the morning at 8am with a
    simple briefing at the park headquarters form the local ranger
    guide. So waking up will be very early in the morning for breakfast
    and then set off for the park headquarters with your packed lunch.
    At the station, be divided into groups of eight trekkers, a maximum
    number of trekkers allowed to visit a gorilla family per day. Enter
    into the jungle and search for these mighty apes.
    Gorilla trekking takes about 1 to 6 hours of trekking into the
    impenetrable forest, depending on the movements of the apes or the
    sped of the trekkers. You will spend one magical hour in the
    presence of the apes, watching them carry on their daily lives as
    you learn about them.

    In the evening after lunch and some relaxation, visit the Batwa
    community. This is a community for the forest pygmies who were
    the first inhabitants of the impenetrable forest before they were
    resettled outside the park. You will enjoy traditional performances
    as you get close and personal encounters with the local people.
    Return to the lodge in the evening to prepare for departure the
    following day.

    Day 3: Departure.

    Have breakfast, check out of the lodge and start driving to Kampala.
    That will be the end of the three days trip in Bwindi impenetrable
    forest national park. The journey gives you more spectacular views
    of the Kigezi highlands and lush vegetation along the way.
